I know I've only just said that I wouldn't be posting for the next couple of weeks... but I had a few hours spare today and so set to adding Danny Douglass's flickr gallery package to my site.
The instructions for installing didn't make sense at first, but once I had created a flickr API key, the associated flickr shared secret and discovered my flickr Username (which isn't what I use to login with, which is why it was confusing for me) I thought I'd be good to go. However its not as simple as that. Testing locally a message kept coming up telling me to configure my flickr settings in the web.config; well I thought I had, so tried various combinations of things but nothing worked. Luckily in the comments for the post someone had mentioned similar problems and the suggested solution was to configure a CachePath. To add the CachePath I needed to add a new section to my <configSections>
then granted NETWORK_SERVICE the relevant permissions over my cacheLocation folder.
This got the package up and running - now all I need to do to display my photos on my site is to grant eveyone permissions to see the photos I want to appear. Those that are marked as private or only for Friends and Family will not get shown. Very nice.
