Jeremy Miller posed the question Can we declare programming in Xml to be dead yet, though it isn’t dead yet I would like to think that we will soon be able to declare the dark days of the mid-2000’s fling with programming by Xml files to dead.
There was a time when the answer to everything was to get Xml involved; to me Xml seemed like a bit of a fad, even though there’s no denying how useful it can be I think it was over-used, in ways it wasn’t planned to be used (a bit like tables for layout), so I am pleased to see that the tides are turning on this. I have suffered the hbm.xml files of NHibernate and am looking forward to giving Fluent NHibernate some attention. I don’t think there’s a real suggestion that Xml will cease to be useful but was there any need for Microsoft Office documents to become docx, xlsx, pptx (etcx
) other than to go with the trend? I don’t think so.
